Extended bio
Dr. Magdi Ishag Ahmed is a Sudanese consultant psychiatrist, academic and writer based in the United Kingdom, with more than three decades of experience in psychiatry.
He writes on political psychology, love and marriage, awareness, revolution, war and peace, and homeland and exile, offering a psychological and humane reading of people, their relationships and their society.
His books include “The Reality of Sudanese Women: Issues of Love and Marriage”, published by Al-Musawwarat Publishing, Printing and Distribution House in Khartoum at the start of 2021. The book is a scientific reading, in a social context, of the psychology of love and marriage: it covers women's makeup and history, their present as shaped by custom and tradition, the concepts of love, sex and marriage, the problems of relationships, and the building of mature, balanced bonds.
The same house published his “Revolution Through the Lens of Political Psychology” (2021), which reads the mark that decades of oppression left on Sudanese awareness and on the course of the revolution, followed by “Circles of Oppression: A Reading of the Reality of Strife, Difference and Conflict” and “Letters Against War: For Peace, Love and Hope” (2024), a collection of articles and reflections written since the war broke out in April 2023.
In 2022 he published two collections of his articles through Noor Library: “Words in the Sanctuary of Homeland and Revolution”, articles about the homeland (memories, experiences and an analysis of reality through the lens of political psychology), and “We Grew Old When We Left the Homeland”, articles on exile, longing and the dreams of the future.
His articles on Sudanese affairs address the political transition, war and asylum, women and love in wartime, racism, and the psychology of destruction and rebuilding. They appear in a number of Sudanese outlets, including Sudanile, Medameek and the Sudanese Studies Centre.
